Can you make a profit with a small spa vs. a large one?

A question submitted to Spas2b:

What is the best size to make the best profit? Can a small spa make a profit, or is this only something a larger spa can achieve with expensive treatments?

Our Response:

Profitability can be accomplished by both small and large spas.

Even though the revenue in a large spa may be 10x that of a small spa, revenue does not mean profit. Profitability simply means spending less than you are making. Small spas will of course reach maximum profit potential sooner that large spas, but an owner could actually walk away at the end of the year with more money in their pocket from their small spa, than if they had a larger spa, where outgoing overhead expenses outweighed incoming revenue.
