Acne Treatments

A question submitted to Spas2b:

Is it a good idea to specialize in acne treatments? Would you be pigeon-holing your spa if you advertised you were the acne specialists, or could you sill also just be a regular day spa too?

How would you get yourself known for this treatment and still be of interest to everyone else?


Our Response:

Having a niche is almost always a good thing.

If this is where you shine, it should definitely be promoted as such. But you are right, your marketing materials must be clear in stating you offer many outstanding services, in tandem with your specialty.

Initially you will need to market your niche according to what you presume your market requires. As your reputation increases, you will adjust your marketing efforts up or down depending on your goals, and word of mouth will also kick in to the cause. I don’t think you need to worry that this will take away from other areas of expertise, because acne is a smaller segment of the population, and the rest of us are still looking for quality spa services and experiences.

As with many niches, or specialties, a certain segment of the population is going to be the more attracted to your offer, than some other segments will be. Yours may attract the younger set (and peri/menopausal women), and work to open a whole new market segment for you to draw from. As parents bring in their child who may suffer from this condition, that child will tell their friends, and so on (as will menopausal women).

You could perhaps develop your niche to encompass educational workshops, spa home care, prevention & cure, and so much more. Good luck and enjoy these possibilities!
