How should we charge for group bookings?

A question submitted to Spas2b:

We have a question in regards to a large number of patrons (10)booking the spa on a Saturday. We have charged a rental fee in the past, and asked that everyone has 2 services done. I don’t feel that we’re making enough money as we have only one esthetician and perhaps a massage therapist (we’re currently interviewing).

The rental fee for the building is $175.00 and the two services would add up to 132.00 each. We’re just not sure what is fair/yet good for us at the same time.

Let me know what your thoughts are please! Thanks, Leslie

Our Response:

How will 1 or 2 therapists service 10 guests having two treatments? Also, the rental fee sounds a bit low (is this for the entire day?), and are there any amenities included, refreshements, additional extras that need to be factored in, or are they gratus? Remember to calculate revenue vs. costs and decide if it’s worth it.

Is this a marketing focus of yours? It can be a very good one if supported with the right initiatives ongoing. If it doesn’t make you much money upfront, then it should be contributing towards future potential revenue and repeat business, so bringing in this traffic must at least increase interest and awareness in the community. So if you do this kind of thing, promote the concept; upsell on that day, offer incentives to return, etc. I hope this helps…

If you are accustomed to group rentals, etc. please let us know your thoughts!
