Staff Scheduling

A question submitted to Spas2b:

One of the staff members where we work changes the schedule without permission to make it work best for her. She is a senior esthetician, but still, why should she be allowed to do this? Is there a way to stop this and make it more fair? What is the normal way this is handled in spas?


Our Response:

Ideally, no one other than assigned staff and management should be touching the schedule.

This is the responsibility of management to stop this from happening, unless they just don’t care to. I would suggest you approach management and let them know you are unhappy with this practice. At the same time, present a possible solution to the problem, and offer to be involved in the restructuring of this front desk procedure. Use your professionalism and good business tactics, and you will be more likely to achieve what you wish to change.

I have actually been a victim of this. I asked for a female massage therapist and when I arrived, I was booked with a male. He was great, but I was upset that the arrangements I made on the phone with the receptionist where changed because she said “too many people have access to the appointment book”.

She said that although I was booked with a female massage therapist initially, there wasn’t a note on the system that I requested that specifically, only she knew it was a request, so it was changed by someone who probably wasn’t aware of my preference. Still no excuse, that was a let down for me.  But I still go there!
